Double Dutch Derby
Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
Double Dutch Derby ("the Game") is developed by MAKENZO ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what information the Game collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It is specific to Double Dutch Derby; the studio-wide MAKENZO Games privacy policy covers our website and our other games. The Game is made for a general audience that includes children under 13, so we follow children's-privacy rules (COPPA in the United States, including the FTC's 2025 amendments) and US state rules for players under 18 and collect only the minimum information needed to run the Game.
The short version
- You play as an anonymous guest by default. Creating an account with a username and password (no email address) and setting a display name are optional, and only offered to players who have confirmed they are 13 or older.
- Under 13, or age not yet confirmed: no ads at all. Ads are shown only to players who have confirmed they are 13 or older, and a one-time purchase removes interstitial ads.
- Players aged 13 to 17 only ever see non-personalized (contextual) ads. We flag them to ad partners as age-restricted, do not let the ad software read the device's advertising ID, never ask them for tracking permission, and never sell or share their personal information.
- Players 18 and over may see personalized ads chosen using the device's advertising ID. Under some US state laws this counts as "selling" or "sharing" personal information for targeted advertising. You can turn it off at any time with the Personalized ads switch in Settings (see "Advertising choices" below).
- We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites ourselves.
- Real-money purchases are handled by Apple or Google — we never see your payment card, and a parental gate ("grown-up check") appears before any purchase.
- When the Game crashes, an anonymous crash report is sent to our crash-reporting provider so we can fix the bug. It contains no name, email, or other personal details.
Information we collect
Account and gameplay data (through Unity Gaming Services):
- An anonymous player ID assigned after you answer the age screen, so your progress can be saved.
- Your game progress: best score, highest tier reached, best combo, coins, rope cosmetics, and number of runs played.
- An optional account (players 13 and older only), created with a username and password. The username is one you invent; we do not ask for an email address, a phone number or your real name, and we do not collect them. Players under 13 cannot create an account and stay anonymous guests.
- A display name shown publicly on leaderboards next to your score. Players 13 and older may choose their own (screened for inappropriate words). Players under 13 get an automatically generated nickname that contains no personal information.
- Your age group (under 13, 13 to 17, or 18 and over), worked out from the age you enter on a neutral age screen the first time you open the Game, before any online feature starts (earlier versions asked for a birth month and year, and only when an ad was about to play). What you enter is not kept. So that your age group can update as you get older, the Game stores on your device only the months in which you will certainly be 13 and 18. This is never uploaded to our servers or shared with ad partners, is used only to decide whether ads may be shown, how they are delivered, and which account features are available, and is removed when you delete your data.
Crash and error diagnostics (through Sentry):
- When the Game crashes or hits an error, it sends a crash report: the error and stack trace, the device model and operating system version, the Game version, and a short log of the Game's own recent actions ("breadcrumbs") leading up to the crash.
- Crash reports use a random per-installation ID, not your player ID, name, email, or advertising identifier. The Game is configured so that personal information is not included in reports.
- Crash data is stored in Sentry's United States region and is used only to find and fix bugs — never for advertising or profiling.
- Apple and Google may also collect crash and performance data through their own platform services (Apple crash reporting and MetricKit, Google Play Android Vitals), under their own privacy policies and your device settings.
Purchase data:
- Whether you have purchased "Remove Ads." Purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play; we receive a confirmation only — never your payment-card details.
Advertising data (only for players confirmed 13 or older):
- Ads are delivered through Unity LevelPlay mediation, which runs an auction between ironSource Ads, Unity Ads, and other ad networks connected to it. Partners receive an approximate location derived from the IP address, device and app information (model, operating system, language, app version), and ad interaction data (which ads were shown, viewed, or tapped), which they use to deliver and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and prevent fraud, under their own privacy policies (Unity, ironSource).
- Players 18 and over: unless you have switched off Personalized ads, partners also receive the device's advertising ID (Google Advertising ID on Android; Apple IDFA on iOS, only if you allow tracking) and use it to personalize ads. This may be a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under some US state laws; the Personalized ads switch opts you out.
- Players aged 13 to 17: every ad request is flagged as age-restricted and "do not sell or share", and the Game tells the advertising software not to read the advertising ID. Partners may use the information above only to deliver a contextual ad, measure it, cap its frequency, and prevent fraud. We do not sell or share the personal information of players we know are under 18, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
- Players who are under 13, and players whose age is not yet confirmed, are never shown ads, and the advertising software is not started for them.
Technical data:
- Basic device and connection information needed to operate online features (sign-in, cloud save, leaderboards) and to keep the service secure.
We do not use third-party analytics trackers. On iOS, players 18 and over who have not switched off Personalized ads are asked for App Tracking Transparency permission once, before their first ad; if you decline, ads are still shown but are not personalized. Players under 18 are never asked.
How we use information
- To save and restore your progress across sessions and devices.
- To show global leaderboards (display name and score).
- To provide optional accounts and to help you recover your progress.
- To find and fix crashes and bugs.
- To deliver ads to players 13 and over (personalized only for players 18 and over who have not opted out), cap how often they appear, and offer an ad-free purchase.
- To keep the Game working, secure, and free of abuse.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
The Game is intended for a general audience that includes children under 13, and we design it to comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), including the FTC's 2025 amendments.
Support for internal operations. For all players, including children, we use a persistent anonymous player ID, a random crash-report ID, and basic device data solely to support the internal operations of the Game. Specifically, these identifiers are used to: (1) save and restore game progress; (2) keep you signed in; (3) detect, report, and fix crashes and errors; (4) prevent fraud and cheating on leaderboards; and (5) keep the service secure. Safeguards: these identifiers are never combined with a child's name, email, or contact details; they are never shared with advertisers; crash reports are configured to exclude personal information; and access to this data is limited to the people who maintain the Game.
No ads for children. Ads are shown only to players who have confirmed they are 13 or older. Children under 13 are never shown ads, the advertising software is not started for them, and no advertising ID is ever used for a player whose age is not confirmed to be 13 or older.
No accounts or personal information for children. Username/password accounts and custom display names are only available to players who have confirmed they are 13 or older. Players under 13 play as anonymous guests: we do not collect an email address, name, or any other personal information from them, and their leaderboard nickname is generated automatically. Because we collect no personal information from children beyond the identifiers described above, no parental-consent flow is required; a parent can still contact us at any time to review or delete a child's data.
Purchases. A parental gate ("grown-up check") is shown before any real-money purchase.
Players aged 13 to 17. Teen players can create an account and choose a display name, and may see ads, but those ads are always non-personalized and flagged to ad partners as age-restricted; we never ask teens for tracking permission and never sell or share their personal information. If a player answers the age screen as under 13, deleting their data does not let them answer again with an older age on that device until they would turn 13.
We do not sell children's personal information, and we seek separate consent for any third-party disclosure that is not integral to providing the Game.
Who we share data with (service providers)
We share data only with the providers below, only for the purpose listed, and we do not sell personal information.
- Unity Technologies (Unity Gaming Services) — anonymous and email/password authentication, cloud save, leaderboards, Cloud Code (server-side game logic), and ad mediation.
- Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) — crash and error reporting, hosted in the United States. Receives anonymous crash reports only.
- Ad networks connected through Unity LevelPlay (ironSource Ads, Unity Ads, and other bidding networks) — to serve ads to players 13 and over, measure them, and prevent fraud, under their own policies. They receive the device advertising ID only for players 18 and over who have not switched off Personalized ads.
- Apple / Google — to process purchases. Their platform services may also collect crash and performance data under their own policies.
Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, and never indefinitely:
- Account and progress data is kept while your account or anonymous player ID is in use. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it and its progress.
- Crash reports are kept by our crash-reporting provider for 90 days, then deleted automatically.
- Leaderboard entries are kept while the leaderboard runs. When a leaderboard is reset, old entries are deleted.
- Purchase records are kept as long as needed to honor your "Remove Ads" purchase and as required by law.
Data may be stored on Unity Gaming Services, Sentry, and platform (Apple / Google) servers, which may be located in the United States or other countries.
Your choices and rights
- Play anonymously — you can play as a guest without providing any personal details, and an account needs only a username you invent.
- Display name — optional; if set, it appears on public leaderboards.
- Remove ads — a one-time purchase removes interstitial ads.
- Advertising choices — see the section below.
- Delete your account or data — any time from the account screen in the Game (Settings → Account → Delete Account, or Delete My Data for guests), which removes the account, its cloud save, its leaderboard entry, and local progress. You can also email privacy@makenzogames.com from the address on the account (or include the player ID shown on the Game's account screen) and we will delete it for you. Step-by-step instructions are on our Delete Your Account page. Deleting the app alone removes locally stored data but not your cloud data.
- Access or delete your data — contact us to request access to, or deletion of, your account and its associated data. Depending on where you live (for example, California under the CCPA or another US state privacy law), you may have additional rights, including the right to correct your data, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising (use the Personalized ads switch in Settings, or email us), and to appeal a decision about your request.
Advertising choices
Only players who have confirmed they are 13 or older see ads. Players 13 to 17 always get non-personalized ads. If you are 18 or over and prefer non-personalized ads:
- In the Game: Settings → Personalized ads → Off. This opts you out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising. It applies from the next time you open the Game (restart it to apply it now).
- Android: Settings → Google → Ads (or Settings → Privacy → Ads) → Delete advertising ID, or turn off Ads personalization.
- iOS: decline the tracking prompt when it appears, or go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking and turn it off for Double Dutch Derby.
- Any device: the one-time Remove Ads purchase removes interstitial ads; the optional rewarded ads remain available only if you choose to watch them.
- By email: privacy@makenzogames.com.
The Game is not currently offered in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or Brazil.
Parents' rights
If you are a parent or guardian, you have the right to:
- Review the personal information we have collected from your child.
- Request deletion of your child's personal information.
- Refuse further collection or use of your child's information — you can continue to play as a guest, or stop using the Game.
To make a request, contact us at privacy@makenzogames.com with enough detail to locate the account (for example, the player ID shown on the Game's account screen). We will verify the request and respond within the time required by law.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest with our providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to keep your data protected.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice within the Game or on this page.
